Hello lovely readers!
So I was strolling through twitter the other day when someone mentioned that a blogger #SisiYemmie and actress Genevieve Nnaji had some sort of scwabble. I quickly ran to Sisi Yemmie's twitter page
and went ahead to scroll down her timeline, enjoying the rants and looking for the originating tweet that started the wahala. While i was enjoying myself (lol) i saw a flyer about the Female Business Sessions conference happening the following day at the National Center for Women Development here in Abuja. It sounded nice... I am always about women for women type things so i decided to attend.
I got to attend the event the next day as press (...yey) and it was amazeballs! It was really nice to see female business owners, mostly young northern women, come together and try to empower each other. The First lady of Kebbi State was there, Onyeka Onwenu (who is now the DG of the women center) was there, Sisi Yemmi was there and several other established ladies where there as well.
The First Lady of Kebbi State urged women to promote themselves, exchange idea's and help each other package and grow their businesses.
Onyeka Onwenu's speech centered around having a great attitude towards what you do.
"Give it all your best" she said "Dedicate yourself and exploit every opportunity. She also related owning a business to her very successful musical career when she said " You are as good as your last performance. outdo yourself every time!"
Ekeatte Umoh, the founder of Business Support Micro Finance bank, got the entire audience into an exercise that would assist in making 2016 an amazing year.
These exercises included, writing out concrete goals for 2016, creating a financial game plan and healthy living tips.
One great thing i learnt from Ekeatte which i plan to put to practice is having an accountability partner or partners, who will make sure i am accountable for the goals i set out to achieve in 2016 and beyond.
SisiYemmie talked about becoming successful. she told an interesting and inspiring story about her journey through having her blog as a hobby to now making a living off it and some points she made where
- find your inspiration
- strategize
- start from where you are and move forward
- connect with like minds
- develop a good work ethic
- be creative
- reinvent yourself
The other facilitators where full of inspiring stories and great tips and exercises and i was really glad i made the effort to attend. This is definitely the kind of environment i need to be in as i re-resurrect my media company.
I was impressed with the conference and even more impressed with the organizers and founders of FBS Rafia Mahmood and Kofo Oyeleye who are young, family women with full time jobs who still feel the need to empower other womaen... Kudos guys
The Female Business Sessions is on a mission to empower female business owners through management, leadership and entrepreneurial skills which will help them sustain businesses fit for a global stage. check their website here
loved the experience and had to share.

my best and most informative session was when Amina Yarema, ( a financial consultant ) talked to the ladies about sorting out the Taxes for their businesses. She took her time to explain the different types of taxes and how to go about filing for them and penalties for not doing so. This was great for me because i have a registered company that i haven't done any tax on so i have been put on alert to sort it out and I will! Thanks Amina!
I also learnt from Amina that CBN has stated that no bank can charge you more that 1% on COT... so if your bank has been charging you more than 1%, you can contest it confidently
